0068 Classical Gas

In the style originally performed by  Mason Williams

Number 1 Billboard Easy Listening Hit for Mason Williams for the weeks of August 17, 1968 through August 31, 1968

Original song version from 1968

This short excerpt is in MP3 format running at 128 Kb per second.
The version on the CD album runs at 1,411 Kb per second.
The full CD audio file format size is 29,469 KB and runs for 2 minutes and 51 seconds.

My first exposure to this song was on the The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour back in college. Mason Williams was the head writer for the show and obviously quite a guitarist.

Here's the YouTube tape of the original preview performance with the infamous "3000 Years of Art in 3 Minutes." In the psychedelic 60's, the visuals were enough to make it a hit.

It was replayed numerous times, with my group of viewers trying to identify the art and artists flying across the screen like some type of insane Tachistoscope.
