One of my favorite songs by Procol Harum. However, every time I hear it I've got to resist the temptation to shout, "It's Kon-Kist-A-Door not Kon-KWIST-A-Door."
As numerous pundits have chimed, "The English and the Americans are two peoples divided by a common language."
I have the same problems with "Al-u-min-i-um" and "Jag-u-ar."
Of course, as I've often explained to my Brit friends, "Y'all" is a perfectly good word. So is "Awl" for that petroleum stuff that comes out of the ground. Just like "Bob-War" for the stuff you keep all those little heifers fenced in with.
